  • Do you feel like you are chasing your tail?
  • Do you feel like you are treading water and about to go under?
  • Do you wake up to “Ground Hog Day”, everyday?
  • Do “sticky notes” with problems from yesterday greet you at the door?
  • Does it feel like someone put Miracle Grow on your “List of Things to Do”?
If you have answered YES to 3 or more of the above questions, this seminar is for YOU!!!

The coursework for obtaining licensed nurse status varies according to the degree obtained. Review of the nursing curriculum for varying degree levels will reveal very little time spent in teaching nurses how to lead people. Employers may not provide training or share the expectations they have for this critical leadership position. Nurses in Long Term Care almost always are required to be "IN CHARGE", yet find themselves ill prepared to take on that role.

How can a nurse lead when there is all of that assessment, documentation, notification, medication administration and treatment completion to be done? How is a nurse supposed to keep on top of the effective delivery of care when shifts are disrupted by everything from call in's to injury accidents to natural disasters?

Let's begin to explore the wide, wonderful world of effective shift leadership by charge nurses. Other professionals who wish to attend will find the session information very applicable to their roles as well and are welcome to join us!

Objectives:
At the completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
  1. Define the meaning of being “in charge”
  2. Demonstrate how to provide “effective shift interchange”
  3. Communicate clearly the work to be done, prioritize work tasks, and monitor your team's pace of work throughout the day
  4. Recognize and eliminate “Nurse Ratchet” behavior
  5. Make work more fun and less stressful by “seeing through the day”
This presentation includes lecture, humor, group discussion, and individual action planning. Session length can be customized from 3.5 - 6.5 hours.
